Advantages of UHMWPE Fiber

UHMWPE fibers deliver unparalleled performance in weight reduction and extreme strength environments.

Extreme Strength

With a tensile strength of 3500 MPa, UHMWPE is approximately 15 times stronger than steel on a weight-for-weight basis.

Ultra-Lightweight

Extremely low density (0.97 g/cm³) allows the material to float on water while providing high-level protection.

Buoyancy

Inherent buoyancy makes it the preferred material for marine ropes, nets, and floating ballistic shields.

Chemical Resistance

Highly resistant to moisture, strong acids, bases, and organic solvents, ensuring reliability in harsh conditions.

UV Resistance

Excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation, maintaining its mechanical properties during prolonged outdoor exposure.

Wide Temperature Range

Maintains high performance and flexibility across a wide temperature range from -150°C to +80°C.

UHMWPE Fiber FAQ

What makes UHMWPE different from aramid? +
UHMWPE is lighter (it floats) and stronger than aramid, but it has a lower melting point (around 145°C). It is often preferred for high-level plates due to its weight advantage.
Does UHMWPE absorb water? +
No, UHMWPE is hydrophobic and has zero water absorption, which means it maintains its full performance and weight even in wet conditions.
How does Impact Composites ensure the quality of UD sheets? +
We utilize precise tension control and advanced matrix resin systems during the manufacturing of our UD sheets to ensure consistent ballistic performance.
What NIJ levels can UHMWPE achieve? +
UHMWPE is commonly used to achieve NIJ Level IIIA (soft armor) and Level III or III+ (hard plates). It can also be used as part of a hybrid system for Level IV.
